Before we close out our campaign, I want to thank all of you who have visited our website, all of our supporters, and all of you who voted for me on Tuesday. While our campaign was not successful, our goal was to engage our opponents on the vital issues facing all Americans and South Carolinians. These issues remain paramount for our citizens: how to attack skyrocketing gasoline and food prices, the need to bring new jobs to our communities, federal assistance for our deteriorating infrastructure, need for comprehensive health care, the requirement to bring our combat troops home from Iraq, need to pay down the national debt and balance the federal budget, the need to end our dependence on foreign oil and develop alternative fuel sources while engaging our South Carolinian farmers in the process, scrap No Child Left Behind and replace it with a more focused federal program with federal funding, and the need to improve our environment while working to turn around the effects of global warming.

Lynne and I have made wonderful friendships along the campaign trail. We will always be grateful for those many people who touched our lives during these past five months. I urge each of you to stand firm for your beliefs and the principles on which we campaigned. I will always be proud of our issues-oriented, proactive, and clean campaign. My 39 year military and government career was based on service to my country and my community. I will continue to work within my local community and the political process to make ours a better place in which all of us may live. Thank you.
